Overland Power Carts have led the electric power cart market for the last decade.  Over the years we have heard one main request from our customers: “more power for inclines”.  We have answered that request with TWO new lines of carts: the 950 series and the 1400 series.  The 950 series uses a 950 watt 24V motor and has been designed from the ground up for contractors and residential customers who live in hilly terrain.  This blog post will breakdown the key features of the 950 series power carts.  And don’t forget, the 950 Series can be ordered by visiting our ONLINE STORE!

1.  Overland 950 Series – Nearly 2.5X More Power

The all new 24V 950 watt transaxle on the 950 series has nearly 2.5 times the power of our standard 400W motor.  It also features an improved structural design with reinforced ribs running the length of the transaxle.  The new design is optimized for improved straight line speed and improved incline performance.  Overall speed has improved from 3.0 MPH on our 400 series to 3.5 MPH on our 950 series.  That may not seem like much on paper but when you operate the two machines you can immediately tell a difference.  There is noticeably more speed on pavement and grass.  This translates to a more enjoyable operating experience and to getting more done in a day.

With more power comes increased capacities and the 950W motor packs a serious punch in this department.  On hard flat surfaces the 950 series is capable of hauling 950 lb.  On grass inclines, the 950 series is capable of hauling 500 lb.  The incline test involved going up a 100 foot grass incline that ranged from 5 degrees to 16 degrees at its steepest point.   This is a noticeable improvement over the 400 series and it makes the 950 series the perfect choice for those customers with hilly terrain.

While the new 950 series offers plenty of improved power, it still features two of the most popular features found on our 400 series: an open differential and sealed transaxle.  The combination of the open differential and rear swivel wheels allows for a true zero turn radius and exceptional maneuverability in tight spaces.  The second popular feature is the sealed transaxle.  Not only is the transaxle water resistant but it is sealed for life. There is never a need to swap differential oil.  All the moving parts are safely secure in the transaxle housing allowing for worry free operation and improved safety.

2.  Overland 950 Series – The 75 Amp Hr Battery Pack

More transaxle means more battery power.  Thus the introduction the biggest battery pack we have ever put on an Overland Cart, 75 Amp Hr.  This is more than three times the standard 24 Amp Hr battery pack we put on our 400 series.  We also introduced our most rigorous battery testing to date, our MAX load testing.  We put 750 lb in the hopper and did a lap on grass and on pavement.  Then we then did a lap empty.  After each lap there was an alternating break of 2.5 minutes or 5 minutes to simulate a work day.  The result is a cart that we are confident to rate at 7-8 hours of real world use or an estimated 8-9 miles on one charge.

As with all of our battery packs, it is removable via the quick release system.  Simply remove the cotter pin and the rolled pin from the bottom of the battery pack and lift the battery pack up and out.  Due to the weight of the battery pack you will need either two people to remove it or one very strong and motivated person.   The battery pack is made up of two high quality 12V 75 Amp-Hr AGM Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) Batteries.  AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) battery construction is the latest and best battery construction for SLA batteries.  The batteries feature exceptional performance and longevity.  Overall the batteries are expected to last between 300-500 cycles and in our experience, some last many more cycles than that.  Replacement batteries can be purchased direct from us, from Amazon, or from almost any battery supply store. The batteries can be installed rather easily by using basic tools.  As an added bonus to the AGM construction, there is no need to add acid at any point as each battery is sealed and is maintenance free.

3.  Overland 950 Series – The SMART Charger

The battery pack rightly gets most of the attention when customers are considering electric powered equipment, but the charger is nearly as crucial.  All Overland Carts use smart chargers which charge the cart in three stages, more on that in a moment.  The 950 series comes with an off board 8 amp hr charger designed for industrial applications.  It has been extensively tested by world renowned testing institutions and is UL Certified, CE Certified, TUV Certified and RoHS complaint.  Simply plug the charger into any 110V outlet and the smart charger takes it from there.

The charger’s built in battery management system analyzes the condition and charge state of the battery pack and then charges it in a way that optimizes charge time and also battery life.  This combination allows for the fastest possible charge time while also ensuring the battery pack will last as long as possible. The 8 amp-hr charger is able to take the battery pack from dead to fully charged in about 9 hours.  We recommend charging the cart overnight or after each extended use.  The charger has a trickle charge feature that allows the battery pack to be continually plugged in without negatively affecting the life or performance of the batteries.

4.  Overland 950 Series – The Flat Free Tires

The 950 Series comes standard with flat free dual ag drive tires.  Each tire features a semi-pneumatic design that performs similar to an air tire but does not require inflation.  Semi-pneumatic tires are heavy duty in their construction and consist of a very thick layer of rubber with a hollowed out inside.  The result is a tough and durable tire that will last through even the most rigorous applications.

Each individual tire measures 13 inches in diameter and has a width of 4 inches.  A complete dual ag tire assembly has a diameter of 13 inches and a width of 8 inches.  The width of the tires measure 33″ from tire edge to tire edge when they are mounted on the cart.  Perfect for all around use, the dual ag design has been our most popular tire since our Overland Cart line was introduced in 2008.  The design allows for traction on the most challenging surfaces while still providing excellent performance on smooth surfaces such as concrete or asphalt.  The rear casters are 10″ Flat Free Swivel Wheels.

5.  Overland 950 Series – The Hopper

The 950 Series comes standard with either a 10 cubic foot wheelbarrow style hopper or a 9 cubic foot wagon style hopper. Both hoppers feature a heavy gauge HDPE construction that is lightweight and also completely free from the possibility of rusting.  We get our hoppers from Brentwood Industries which is known through the material handling world as offering the highest quality hoppers on the market.  In fact, in over 10+ years we have never replaced an Overland hopper under warranty.

950 Series 10 cu. ft hopper with power dump

The 10 cubic foot and 9 cubic foot hoppers have an overall width of 36″ making it the widest part of the 950 series.  The 9 cu ft wagons feature the ability to swap a hopper for a flatbed if needed.   Both the 10 cu ft and 9 cu ft. come either with power dump or without power dump.  The power dump option features an all electric lifter that assists the dumping of the Overland Cart.  There is a quick release on the back in case the hopper needs to be dumped in a hurry.
